From 2006 to 2008, the Univeristy of Costa Rica invested around 7 million dollars in research equipment and scientific publications. It also acquired 78 new data bases and 43 of those offer complete texts. In 2008, the Geophysical Research Center became part of the the World Wide Lightning Location Network.
