Celebration of Progress!! (3) • Dramatic increase in reading in middle schools • In 2004, 1 of 7 schools made AYP in all reading areas • In 2005, 7 of 8 schools made AYP in all reading areas • Huff made AYP in 2005 • More students in every group at Garfield were successful in 2005 than did in 2004
Factors Influencing 2005 AYP Status • Increase in standard to 47.5% from 40% in 2004 • District interventions • Changes in procedures to determine 2005 AYP • IMPACT of the above: • Many subgroups in schools that did not make AYP would have if standard had not increased to 47.5% • Making AYP was often a function of the combination of interventions and procedure changes.
2005 AYP Computation Procedure changes • Subgroup size increases to 45 from 40 • “Confidence band” set at 95% - which will vary with subgroup size • IMAGE scale score needed to “pass” changed to provide parity with ISAT

The Opportunity and Caution • 2004-05 was one step in the journey • In 2005-06: • Group sizes will double • The standard remains the same @ 47.5% • “Potential” to move five schools to be FREE of SANCTIONS • Takes two years of not making AYP to be required to provide extra services • Once required to provide extra services, takes two years to be freed of that obligation. • Diagnostic work for 2005-06 continues for students in all schools
