Selection of Counselling Supervisors 1) Educational Qualifications : Postgraduate in Social Work/ Psychology / Public Health 2) Experience: 3 - 5 years experience in HIV/AIDS , training or counselling They could be from: • NGOs working in the field of HIV/AIDS • Teaching Institutes, (master trainers and / or teaching faculty • Social workers from hospitals and medical colleges • Freelance consultants, Preference was given to those persons who had experience as counsellors, as supervision of counsellors / or had worked with communities.
Selection of Counselling Supervisors (contd.) Other criteria for selection: Should be empathetic Should have good listening skills and a non judgmental attitude Should be able to communicate in the local language. Should be willing to travel to ICTC centres. Should be willing to comply with training and reporting requirements. Should undergo the five days training in Counselling Supervision organized by Saksham Should be willing to commit time as per Saksham requirements Should agree to the norms of payments (Honorarium+ food+ travel expenses)
Expectations from Counselling Supervisor • To supervise 5 to 7 ICTC counsellors assigned • Duration : Give undivided 3 to 4 hours per visit • Frequency of visits: Visit each counsellor once in a quarter & four times in a year • Providing all completed assessment tools to respective partner (SR /SSR) • Attend review meetings to share field experiences as well as capacity enhancement needs
