Essay Notes (Review) The Three Parts Of An Essay 1 – Introduction (Beginning) 2 – Body (Middle) 3 – Conclusion (End)
Introduction There are three parts to an introduction: 1 – Grabber 2 – Background 3 – Thesis (If you get stuck I suggest coming up with the THESIS FIRST and working backwards.)
Body The body of an essay can vary in length! Typically, in middle school, you were taught to write FIVE PARAGRAPH essays. However, essays can be any number of paragraphs! Look at the task at hand and plan out ahead of time how many paragraphs you’ll likely need!
Conclusion Restate/rephrase/reiterate the thesis statement. Drive home your point with closing ideas. Avoid presenting new questions/ideas at the very end.
Directions for Essay Response (Copy) Write a well written essay that states the guilt or innocence of the kid in 12 Angry Men. Use specific details from the story to provide evidence for the statement. Your essay should clearly state the position that you are taking (in the thesis). Your essay should be at least 1 ½ pages in length (typed/double spaced).
Due Date Rough Drafts Will Be Completed In Class today and Wednesday. Peer Edits will be on Wednesday.
