Introduction • Welcome to: • On behalf of the convenors: Gustavo Burdman Joel Butler Ian Shipsey Hitoshi Yamamoto
¾ of the E2 convenors can hear. However I am completely deaf, please write down your questions. • Pass them up to me • I will read out your question before answering it.
The Charge (in brief) • Consider the future of low-energy electron-positron colliders: PEP-N, , -charm & B factories (including Giga-Z) & evaluate developments needed to make incisive instruments practical. • Develop & evaluate the physics case jointly with P2 • What are the outstanding questions that heavy-flavor factories address? Consider the contributions from existing and potential experiments using other instruments, and give a critical assessment of the competitive advantages and disadvantages of electron-positron colliders • For each type of factory outline a comprehensive experimental program and estimate the integrated luminosity required to carry it out. • What special detector capabilities are required to achieve the scientific goals of each machine? What detector R&D issues arise? • Write a ~30 page report on our conclusions
Topic Schedule • Tues. a.m. July 3 Charm physics and charm factories overview • Wed. a.m. July 4 Joint E2/P2 B physics and B factories overview • Fri. a.m. July 6 Phi Factories • Fri. p.m. July 6 Joint P5/E2 charm factories/HALLD & QCD (spectroscopy/glueballs/hybrid) • Sat. a.m. July 7 PEP-n & R • Mon. a.m. July 9 Focus on e+e- charm factories • Tues. a.m. July 10 Joint E2/P2/P5 charm factories & Flavor physics • Wed. a.m. July 11 e+e- B factories/Giga-Z I (, , , Acp & Vub) • Fri. a.m. July 13 e+e- B factories/Giga-Z II (Rare & Bs) • Sat. a.m. July 14 e+e- B factories/Giga-Z III (Machines/detectors) • Mon. a.m. July 16 Report & discussion charm/phi/PEP-N. • Tues. a.m. July 17 Report & discussion super B factories/ giga-Z. • Wed. a.m. July 18 Discussion & conclusions, final report.
E2 Breakout Group & Web • There is an E2 breakout group for super B factories (SBF) lead by David Hitlin. • Group will tentatively meet each morning that E2 is not discussing SBF. Tentative dates are July 5, 6, 7, 9, 16 • Request for breakout room has been made, expect reply soon. • Schedules for E2 & E2SBF, as well as talks and preliminary reports will appear on the E2 website. (Schedules are also on the conference center bulletin boards.) Check out E2 links to PEP-N, CLEO-c and SUPERBABAR. E2 website will also be used by those here for a short time to continue to contribute to E2 after leaving Snowmass and for those not at Snowmass to contribute to E2 remotely. • Please contact the convenors if you are not on the agenda but would like a dedicated slot for a formal/informal talk.
