  1. Welcome ASL 3! Today: Vocabulary lists- review with Dr. Weast- foods, countries Deaf Awareness Week- hang posters around campus – shhh!  Deaf for a Day information– teacher signature forms, and signs- handout (I have already emailed all teachers). Party information- Party is Wednesday- what is planned… Quilt raffle- who will sell tickets each lunch? Any ASL 3 club interested students? Do we need other volunteer help from the ASL club students? I’ll have tickets, and a form where they initial for each donation- do we start tomorrow or Wednesday?- (depends on how soon we confirm we have people to sell tickets)

  4. ASL 1 today: • 1. Written Doorbuster; #1-7 answers • 2. reminders: ASL contracts due!!! • 3. Team building in new groups- laminating sentences: • On Paper to TURN IN, please write down as a team at least 10 phrases you would like to have laminated to point to during class (in ASL environment). • 4. Ticket Out- short video; remaining new signs if time- otherwise tomorrow; test information (test next Tuesday over Unit A)

Forming Sentences in ASL • ASL word order: Time Object Subject Verb • Also: subj., adj. or adj., subj.; you vs. me vs. he/she/it • In signing teams/partners, guess how you would sign the following English sentences in ASL. • Remember ASL does not use the verb “to be” (“is, am, are, etc.”) nor use the sign “and” • Then, we will then sign them as a class! • 1. He is stressed, nervous, and excited! • 2. Nice to meet you! • 3. I am hearing. • 4. I didn’t go to the bathroom. • 5. Are you deaf? • 6. I’m learning ASL. • 7. Slow down please, and repeat the sign again.

ASL 2 instructions-you will need your vocabulary packet from last Friday (front table): Now, please use your ASL 1 vocabulary packet (you received Friday) to help you complete this activity in your composition books. Please find and/or write, in capital letters,twenty (20) signs we have learned from EACH category: TIME OBJECT SUBJECT VERB For example, under TIME, you could list YESTERDAY, ONE-YEAR-FUTURE, etc. If you use a month of the year, count only one month (eg. SEPTEMBER is fine, but not JANUARY, FEBRUARY, MARCH, etc… ) If you cannot find 20 in any category, then add more to another category, so you still have 80 signs total (for full credit). *finished early? You may study ASL, or other subjects if quiet- otherwise I’ll give you other ASL work (ASL 1 signs test is next Tuesday!)

  9. ASL 2- Ticket Out • Reminder- ASL Contracts Due!!! Late beginning Wednesday!!! Volunteers for Wed. party per. 4 • Signing Sets- information, expectations • Drills and Dialogues; begin as soon as you are done with the written Doorbuster • Voice off for credit; write a quick word/note, but mostly signing • Time experience = grade (there is no “I’m finished early”) • Staying in signing mode/ASL environment= full credit! (if eyes or hands are off-task, you are not receiving full credit) • Percent received is based on what I see from you- whatyou show me- I am looking for success (no sound AND ASL work) • Signing set with team/partner (alternative-incomplete credit: alone in front, by me) • Remember, you can sign other classroom appropriate concepts, as long as you are signing!!! • Done “early”? Enrichment! – desks cleared off, ASL only (or I collect it) • Gives you more time for signing, improved ASL Fluency! Signing tests- helps grades • Written Doorbuster- time is up when the Signing Set slide appears- finish the written outside of class time for late credit • Test- review ASL 1 signs /culture/grammar (next Tues.)- format, ASL 1 signs, and culture/grammar questions (5 parameters, ASL word order, etc.- check our Doorbusters) • Weakest ASL 1 Lists- review tomorrow

  10. Tuesday: Remember ASL Contracts are due!!!ASL 2 Overall Weakest ASL 1 Lists: • Units 6 and 7 • Time/Money signs • States: TEXAS, ALASKA, HAWAII, COLORADO, ARIZONA, WASHINGTON, OREGON, FLORIDA, • Animals • Unit 10 (for some) • (unit 9 for some)

  11. ASL 1--“moonwalking bear”- what are you looking for? Do not miss the point—yes, you receive asl credit but also:asl environment: should be uncomfortable some---it will provide the method to:*best learn asl*create a general improved ability to learn *activate pathways in rt. Hemisphere not typically used in spoken english- your brain is a muscle! Use it and build it up!
