Fatalities by Year • Number of fatalities has leveled off beginning in the 1980s despite rapidly advancing technologies. • 10 year average is actually higher than the 30 year average and 60 year average • 10-yr: 102 30-yr: 70 60-yr: 90 • This is, however, somewhat skewed by the extreme numbers of 2011 • Deaths by millions of people has leveled off especially since the 1990s and no longer follows the decreasing trend line (see last figure). • 5 out of the last 12 years (42%) have had more fatalities than the 1980-2010 mean.
