What is INPLACE? INPLACE (by Quantum IT) is a web based solution which connects the School of Health & Social Care with their student nurses and midwives and practice partners. Manages student practice learning and associated tasks.
INPLACE went live from the start of this current academic session (2018/9) for nursing and midwifery placements for Edinburgh Napier University; Edinburgh University; Queen Margaret University; Open University and Borders College. Developments are presently on-going to support placements within the AHP and Social Work programmes offered by the School. ENU recognises the importance of a personalised student experience and that every students journey will be different. The Practice Learning Team comprises a team of 6 staff who undertake all the associated tasks relating to practice learning: practice placement allocations; uniforms; security passes; name badges; training planners; PVG; GHGC; absence; registration documentation. We work collaboratively with our other HEI partners and plan and notify of student placements. As part of the project the Dean tasked the team to publish student allocations for a 2.5 year period (Nursing Practice 1 – Nursing Practice 5) the remaining Nursing Practice 6 placement (Consolidation) was undertaken via a self selectable placement i.e. that the students self selected directly via logging into INPLACE. The reasoning for this request was the recognition that practice learning is 50% of the programme and a continual theme from student surveys was the request to know student placements further in advance in an attempt to plan their studies, placements journeys around other
Consideration is given for the undernoted criteria whilst we plan practice learning: • Term time address • Car Owner • Dependants • Travel Time • Health Condition/Disability • Bursary/Non Bursary
Benefits of INPLACE: • Students have a 2.5 year practice learning journey which includes google maps to placements. • Automatically notified of placement contact details • Placement Information Packs tagged to placements • 6 month publication of allocations to placement providers • Student evaluations are now tagged to each Nursing Practice – students notified via INPLACE this has encouraged a significant increase in completion and enables an on-going placement conversation by the link lecturer. • Clearer picture of capacity. Way Forward • Manage changes to allocations • Electronic contact details being kept up-to-date • New programmes of education.
THANK YOU I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support for practice learning it is very much appreciated and valued by the Universities and the students.
