How do you stack up against post-season umpires? The Division II National Umpire Development Clinic is designed for collegiate level umpires seeking advanced instruction and exposure to the Division II evaluation process. This is a training clinic and is not a Division II post-season tryout camp. NUDC will prepare you to become a more attractive candidate to those who make post-season selections. Learn how to put your best foot forward. You will receive intense instruction in three-man field mechanics and plate mechanics. You will be evaluated just as Division II regional umpires are evaluated. Prepare yourself for post-season when you get it. The instructional staff includes several Division II Regional Advisors, the Division II National Umpire Coordinator and the Secretary-Rules Editor. Other clinicians have Division I post-season experience including appointments to the Division I College World Series. Two are either current or former NCAA Division I Umpire Coordinators. The four-day clinic features videotaped plate and field instruction. All umpires will be evaluated according to the standards of performance required at the Division II level by Regional Advisors who function as Evaluator/Observers for the Division II Baseball Umpire Improvement Program.

In 2003 Alan and Michael had the idea of expanding the Homestead Challenge College Spring Training event, then in its 10th year, to Palm Beach County. Alan and Michael approached Mario Signorello, the Director of the Homestead Challenge, with the idea and all that Palm Beach can offer. The founders then approached and received encouragement from Palm Beach County Commissioner Burt Aaronson and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department got involved and coordinated the field logistics and the new home for College Baseball was created. The Palm Beach Challenge played its first game on February 27, 2004 when Frederick Community College of MD took on Corning Community College of NY. All totaling, 30 baseball teams from 13 different states and Canada played nearly one hundred games at the Santaluces Sports Complex that first year with the numbers rapidly growing ever since. The following year the two events were merged and the Palm Beach Challenge became the exclusive home for college baseball in South Florida. In total, over 200 teams from 18 states and Canada have participated in the Homestead and Palm Beach Challenges since their inceptions. These teams would not return year after year if not for our passion for service and dedication to preparing teams for battle once they return to their home towns. In addition to the teams, the residents of Palm Beach County are the winners. Palm Beach Challenge participants, spectators, scouts and umpires use almost 3000 hotel rooms in Palm Beach County every March and over $2 million in economic impact is contributed to our community.
