Car Collision VS Process Control • The sum of the measurement, controller execution, final control element, and process time delay is the total loop dead time. • If the total loop dead time was zero and we had an enormous final control element gain (braking power), we could stop our car in time. • For a given braking power, the time it takes the car to stop after the start of deceleration is determined by the process time constant. • Disturbances, such as wind and elevation, are load disturbances that enter at the process input. • Load disturbances have less of an effect as the process time constant increases. • All disturbances have less of an effect as total loop dead time decreases.
