TF2 • What is a “Good” System look like? • Roads and bridges in good condition • Local roads preserved in current condition • Improve safety • Replace old buses with more fuel efficient vehicles • Implement transit alternatives • Reduce freight travel time & increase reliability • Reinstate curtailed aviation programs • Create Aviation Economic Development fund

Return on Investment at “Good” Funding Level • $1.6 Billion of federal funds leveraged • 126,000 jobs supported • $41 Billion in other economic benefits • $2,000 in average household economic return from reduced travel time, maintenance, safety • 1,400 lives saved • 10,000 injuries prevented • Reduce harmful car emissions • 3 million gallons reduction in gasoline use • Would leverage additional private investment and spur economic growth

MDOT Retirements • MDOT had 2,852 permanent employees as of October 1, 2011 • MDOT had 2,518 permanent employees as of January 8, 2011 • Prior to retirement, MDOT had 244 vacancies as of September 18, 2010 (retirements started October 1) • A total of 328 employees retired between November 1 and December 31, 2010 • 11.7% of MDOT work force • Represent a combined total of 11,879 years of transportation experience
