The Assignment: Directions Assignment: Students are to create a collage of all characters/symbols from the Wizard of Oz that are allegories of people, events, things from the Gilded Age in American History from 1876-1896. Collage must be on a standard size poster with as many symbols as possible. Explanation must be given as to why the symbol or person reflects a real life person or thing from the Gilded Age. Plenty of examples will be hung up in the classroom as a guide to help assist in creating the poster. Due Date: October 23 Grading: Will be based on explanation and argument of why a character is what. Artistic quality is important to provide an aesthetic appearance, however the vast bulk of your grade will come from the historical/literary explanations. Helpful hints: Do some research online to get ideas from other individuals. Don’t rely on the movie!!!!!! Use characters from the book. Open your mind and find the similarities. Your explanation is valid as long as your prove it valid. There is NO correct symbolism I start with. You prove to me your matches are in fact proper and correct.
The Assignment: Directions Do NOT’s: 1. No cutting and pasting onto the poster board. All work must be hand drawn 2. NOOOOOOO Glitter!!! 3. No creating a poster on anything other than the standard poster size. If you don’t know standard poster size then look at the samples in the room 4. No alternative. Must be a poster
