What is HotCity? A huge unified WiFi hotspot in the city of Luxembourg and in its partner cities A city owned wireless meshed outdoor network • overlaid on the city fiber network • location feature • handover feature • CISCO technology • covers today about 70% and in 2011 100% of the city area
What is HotCity? A central service platform • open for all service providers • public free and commercial services • multiple SSID management • content management and content rendering (2011) • location based portal • future proofed
What is HotCity? A private public partnership with the HotCity society between City of Luxembourg and EPT • marketing and promotion • Internet access and commercial services • private partnership management A “test bed” for research projects • in collaboration with SNT (Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust), University of Luxembourg • first planned research projects planned in the domain of green IT and mobility
