What is UNA-USA? • Non-profit membership organization, affiliated with the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) and a strategic alliance partner with the United Nations Foundation (UNF). • Goal - educate, inspire and mobilize Americans to support / strengthen the work of the United Nations, promote constructive US leadership in UN system • With over 25,000 members, the largest American grassroots foreign-policy organization • Leading center of research on the UN and global issues • Public outreach, advocacy, policy analysis, international dialogue, educational and humanitarian campaigns • Advances international cooperation and work of the UN through more than 170 community-based chapters and divisions

What is UNA-Young Professionals (UNA-YP)? • Affinity Network member of UNA-USA • Young Professionals Sections of Chapters • Represented Nationally by YP Regional Reps. & • Natl. Young Professionals Taskforce & Working Group • Seeks to engage young professionals in international affairs and UN programs • Typically ages 21-40, but appreciate all support • An opportunity to interact with other like-minded young professionals with various international social interests • Allows young professionals to make a global impact at the local level.
National UNA-YP Goals • Support UNA-USA Mission • Support UN Millennium Development Goals • Educate and mobilize young professionals in international affairs • Promote leadership and development of young professionals • Promote UNA-USA & UNF Humanitarian Campaigns and Programs like Nothing But Nets; Model-UN; Shot at Life; Measles Initiative and projects partnering with other NGOs • Create a network of global-minded young professionals • Community Service Projects • Passion, professionalism and innovative solutions
UN Millennium Development Goals • Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger • Achieve universal primary education • Promote gender equality and empower women • Reduce child mortality • Improve maternal health • Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases • Ensure environmental sustainability • Develop global partnership for development

Who should join UNA-YP? • Anyone who aspires to be a part of something bigger than themselves • Anyone interested in networking with other young people interested in international affairs locally and nationally • Anyone who has an interest in international professional and/or volunteer opportunities • Anyone interested in developing leadership, organization management, fundraising and event planning skills • Anyone interested in tapping into a nationwide network of experts on a variety of international issues
Why get involved? • We live in a "global village" • About half the world’s people – over 3 billion people – survive daily on less than $2 a day. • At least 200,000 people have died in Darfur since the conflict began in 2003 • AIDS is the 4th leading cause of death globally • Infant mortality in some countries are 4x global average • What happens in other countries does matter to the lives of Americans. • Poverty and strife does not stop at borders and breeds illness and discontent keeping humankind from advancing. • Be part of the Global Solution!!

UNA-YP Los Angeles Efforts UNA Film Festival, October 2012 • Celebrates the power of films and videos dealing with human rights, environmental survival, women’s issues, protection of refugees, homelessness, racism, disease control, universal education, war and peace.
