History • 1979 - Partnerships with Edmonton Public School Board & Edmonton Catholic School District initiated • 2013 - School Resource Officer Unit (SRO) currently consists of 18 Constables in 18 High Schools and 2 Sergeants
Role of the SRO • Engage students through daily interaction • Give structured presentations • Participate in organized school activities • Counseling • Enforcement • Two organizational goals are supported by the role SROs fulfill • Commitment to professionalism • Reduced crime and victimization
Collaborative Model • Funding • Schools pay 5/12 of a Senior Constable’s annual salary for a full time SRO • Schools also pay an additional $500 per officer per year for training purposes • Information Sharing • Teamwork and Mutual Goals
