USING THE FOIL METHOD. MRS. PANZA. YOU KNOW HOW TO SIMPLIFY 7(4X+3), RIGHT?. USE DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY: SEVEN TIMES 4X PLUS SEVEN TIMES 3. 7(4X+3)= 28X+21 BUT WHAT IF IT WAS (X+5)(X+6)?. WE WOULD FOIL!!. FOIL STANDS FOR: F=FIRST O=OUTER I=INNER L=LAST. F= FIRST.

USING THE FOIL METHOD MRS. PANZA
YOU KNOW HOW TO SIMPLIFY 7(4X+3), RIGHT? • USE DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY: SEVEN TIMES 4X PLUS SEVEN TIMES 3. • 7(4X+3)= 28X+21 • BUT WHAT IF IT WAS (X+5)(X+6)?
WE WOULD FOIL!! • FOIL STANDS FOR: • F=FIRST • O=OUTER • I=INNER • L=LAST
F= FIRST • FIRST MULTIPLY THE FIRST TERM IN EACH PARATHESIS: • (X+5)(X+6)= X2
O=OUTER • MULTIPLY THE TWO TERMS ON THE OUTSIDE: • (X+5)(X+6)= X2 +6X
I= INNER • THEN MULTIPLY THE TWO INNER TERMS: • (X+5)(X+6)= X2+6X+5X
L=LAST • MULTIPLY THE LAST TERM IN EACH OF THE PARENTHESIS: • (X+5)(X+6)= X2+6X+5X+30
AND FINALLY…….. • ADD EVERYTHING TOGETHER……. • (X+5)(X+6)=X2+6X+5X+30= • X2+11X+30
