Jesus’ Compassion • Levelled Homework: Due on Thursday 10th. • Make an annotated collageshowing Christians doing different kinds of compassionate work eg CAFOD, mercy ships, Lepra, SVP . • Add labels on your collage to • Describewhat these organisations do (L3/4) • Explain the work that these organisations are doing (L4/5) • Explain how they are applying Jesus’ teaching in their own lives (L5) All will Know the parable of the Good Samaritan Most will understand what Jesus meant by showing compassion Some will recognise that compassion is an attitude of heart

The Parable of the Good Samaritan Watch the video • With your partner, write down 8 key words that could summarise what happens in the story Watch the video again. • Describe the story of the Good Samaritan (L3 - use the 8 words to help you) • In how many ways did the Samaritan help the man? (L3- describe) • Why didn’t the other people help him ? What was their attitude ? (describe their behaviour , then explain it (L4) • Why didthe Samaritan help the man ? What was his attitude? (L4 – explain) Finished ? Then see if you can come up with your own modern day version of “The Good Samaritan”…and act it out !

Compassion = helping love Cure of a Woman with Haemorrhage (internal bleeding) The Way p. 48 Two Blind Men The Widow of Nain Think about the woman’s situation, how she had been ill for so long, helpless, putting up with bad doctors, not getting better, afraid of people. Write down a thought by thought account of how she first sees Jesus (was it planned, or by chance) up to the moment when she realises she is cured and finds Jesus talking to her. Sitting by the roadside, listening to people talking about Jesus, what he could do, who he was, and that he was coming this way. Write the conversation between them, up to the point when Jesus heals them. What difference does Jesus make to their lives ? The Way p. 47 • Imagine the conversation the widow • had that night with her son. • What questions would they ask about the man Jesus ? • What explanation would they give for what Jesus did and why he did it ? • What effect would it have on their lives i.now, ii. in their future. Role play the conversation with your partner.
