One day King Pandu decided to take some break and go to the forest to relax and learn about spiritual pursuits • He went with his wives. In the mean time, he designated his blind brother, the king of Hastinapur. • Dhritarashtra was very happy and at the same time uncomfortable when he thought that it was temporary
In the forest- Pandu met with Rishi Kimadu who initiated him into spiritualism. Several days passed by • In Hastinapur- Shakuni was reminding Dhritarashtra that his crown was temporar. • The Queen Mother Satyavati told Bheeshma to call Pandu back to his duty
Pandu was closer to Madri than Kunti. Madri challenged him to hunt. He went hunting and he heard the sound of a deer. He shot an arrow but the arrow hit Rishi Kimadu and his wife together. Before he died, he cursed Pandu that he will die when he decides to have happy moments with his wife • Pandu was helpless and sorrowful. He returned to the kingdom
The curse bothered him too much. He was unable to focus on his duties. He decided to leave for the forest, for good and meditate for the rest of his life. • Pandu left with his wives again. Dhritarashtra was crowned the official king • In the forest, Pandu desired to have children but he could not due to the curse
Kunti was endowed with a “divine mantra” by which she could get children through divine blessings. • (we will see more about Kunti, Krishna’s aunt) in next class)
