40. ►A good den meeting doesn’t just happen; it must be planned. ►It is the adult Den Leader’s job to plan the meeting. ►When a Den Chief understands the planning process, he can contribute suggestions to the plan and volunteer to assist with parts of the meeting. ►The Den Chief must know the plan for each meeting, in order to be a good assistant to the Den Leader.

46. Leading Songs * Start with your favorite song. * Make sure that you know it well (PRACTICE). * Write the words on a poster or chalk board. * Teach two or three lines at a time. * You don't have to be a great singer if you have ENTHUSIAM.

48. Playing Games Give the game a name. Arrange the boys in the proper formation to play. Explain the rules and stress playing fairly. Demonstrate: go through the motions. Answer questions Be the referee, not a player. Include everyone. Allow noise and shouting but maintain control. (use the Scout sign) Stop the game when everyone is having fun.

52. Den Chief Service Award Requirements 1. Serve the pack faithfully for one full year. 2. Attend  Den Chief Training 3. Know and understand  the purposes of Cub Scouting. 4. Help Cub Scouts achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. 5. Be the activities assistant in den meetings. 6. Set a good example by attitude and uniforming. 7. Be a friend to the boys in the den. 8. Take part in weekly meetings. 9. Assist the den at the monthly pack program. 10. Meet as needed with the adult members of the den, pack,  troop, team, or crew.
53. Den Chief Service Award Requirements (continued) 11. Complete four of these projects: a. Serve as a staff member of a special Cub Scouting event, such as a Scouting show, bicycle rodeo, etc. b. Serve as a staff member of a Cub Scout day camp or resident camp. c. Advance one  rank. d. Assist in recruiting three new Cub Scouts. e. Assist three Cub Scouts to become Webelos Scouts. f. Assist three Webelos Scouts to join a troop. g. Help to plan and carry out a joint pack-troop activity. h. Recommend to your Scoutmaster another Boy Scout to be a den chief.
54. Position badges and braids should be presented by your Scout troop at a troop meeting. Tell your Scoutmaster and Den Leader if you plan to work towards earning the Den Chief Service Award. If you are not currently serving as a Den Chief, ask your Scoutmaster to talk to the Pack leadership about assigning you to a den.

Den Chief Challenge • Meet with your den leaders to help plan your part in the den meeting programs. • Wear your uniform to all den and pack meetings. • Make Cub Scouting fun, using different games and ceremonies each week. • Be an example. • Find opportunities to tell your Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, or Webelos Scouts about Boy Scouting activities. • Realize the den leader is the one most responsible for the den because he or she is the adult leader. • Encourage your Tiger Cubs to become Cub Scouts, your Cub Scouts to join the Webelos den, and your Webelos Scouts to become Boy Scouts.s
56. DEN CHIEF PLEDGE I promise to help the boys in my den to the best of my ability; to encourage, guide, and protect them in all den and pack activities, and to show them by my example what Boy Scouts of America stands for. I will strive to be prompt and dependable, and to cooperate with the leaders in carrying out the den program. As each boy becomes eligible to move along the Cub Scouting trail, I will encourage him and do all in my power to interest him in someday becoming a Boy Scout.
