  2. Facebook How they can do it How to prevent it Don’t use a family members or pet’s name as your password. Set your Facebook account on private. Don’t use your password for Facebook for a online bank account and other things of that sort. • If you give out too much info about yourself on Facebook identity thieves can learn how to guess your password and the challenge question financial intuitions use. For example what is your mother’s maiden name?

  3. Phishing How they do it How you can Spot it Do not give them your info!! Call your bank and find out if the email is real. Look for mistakes in the email.(spelling errors, generic greetings) If you did not sign up for your bank to email you then you know it is fake. • They will send an email out to many people hoping at lest one person will “take the bait. The email will look like it is from a bank either about a transaction or someone trying to take money from your account. The “bank” will ask you for your account information so they can handle the situation.

  4. You Win!! How They do it How you can spot it If it is to good to be true then it probably isn’t. Look for spelling errors or generic greetings in the email. Ask them how you could c0ntact them. • They will email or call you telling you had just won a free vacation, a million dollars and so on. But to receive your prize they need your account info to deposit the money in your bank or for you to give them your credit card numbers for the plane tickets or something.

  5. Dumpster Diving How they do it How you can prevent it Use a paper shredder to shred personal documents with you information on it. Break old CD’s with family photo’s or information on them before you throw them out. • All they need to do is go through your trash and find a credit card bill of another sensitive piece of paper with information about you and your accounts.

  6. Telemarketers How they do it How to spot it Watch how much information they ask for about you. If they ask things that the company you do business with should know you should probably hang up! • They will act as a telemarketer from a company they know you do business with and ask you if you want to upgrade or get an add on . When you agree to buy it they will ask you for your credit card info and other info to.

  7. They Steal! How they do it How to prevent it If your purse or wallet is stolen first run after them screaming. Then if they get away call your credit card companies and cancel your cards and alert your bank of the situation so they can keep a look out for activity of your account. • They will steal you purse or wallet right from you.

  8. You know them How they Do it How to prevent it You can’t really it’s hard to hide your info from you family and friends. Just be aware of they kind of people you make friends with and tell your information. • They are family members or friends they know every thing about you! I guess that’s why they want to be you.

  9. Skimming How they do it How to spot it What a cashier when they take your card . Learn what skimming devices look like an keep an eye out for them. If you spot one report it right away to a police officer. • They will be a cashier and when they take your credit card so you can pay they will copy down the numbers usually with a skimming device.
