Education for People with Vision Impairment • Goal: Increase enrollment of of children who are B/VI in inclusive education classrooms by 20% • Partners: Perkins International, Resources for the Blind & MD-301 (2011) • Grant: US$426,064 – 3 yrs. • Output:# kids rec’ing services: 1590# new kids rec’ing services: 716# kids rec’ing LV assessment: 266# of new inclusive edu classrooms: 125# teachers to complete training: 1,256# LV clinicians rec’ing training: 115# parents completing workshops: 663# Braille books produced: 1,965
Training for People with Vision Impairments • Goal: Vocational training & microfinance support to the blind in rural communities using CBR approach • Partners: All India Confederation for the Blind & Lions of Allahabad City in Uttar Pradesh (2012) • Grant: US$106,724 – 5 yrs. • Output:# B/VI identified: 130 # rec’d O&M: 84 # rec’d voc. training: 52 # rec’d loans: 39
SAC Mandate to SWG Create a list of partner organizations that SightFirst can reach out to in order to develop additional projects in the area of education and rehabilitation for people who are blind or have low vision.
Requirements • Government involvement and support of project through human resources is a pre-requisite to a SF project in a certain country. • Partner must engage local Lions and involve them early on in the project development process. • Project aims to create better linkages between education, rehabilitation and health sectors.
