Anna Medvedeva Trailer Analysis
The Day After Tomorrow • I have decided to analyzeTHE DAY AFTER TOMORROW because it is a Post Apocalyptic, Action and Adventure Drama film in which people are trying to survive during global warming. • The music in this trailer is quite fast and helps to build up attention on specific moments for instance certain dialogues.
Characters • The introduction of one of the main characters (Jack Hall) is in a meeting room with the president of the united states where he is explaining the main problem and what government should do to save as many people as possible.
Characters • Another character (Sam) was introduced when he was escaping from a big tsunami that was coming towards him. Later on audience will find out that Jack Hall is Sam’s father who will travel to New York to help him.
Camera angles in the trailer • They used lots of high and low angles in the trailer that help to see all locations and peoples reactions. • Also there are lots of Close Up Shots of the main characters which help to see their emotions and feelings.
Editing • Shots play quite slow at the beginning of the trailer, however they start playing faster as the trailer goes to the end. This helps to focus and try to understand the narrative of the film. • Instead of voiceover that most distributors decide to use in trailers there are some quote sentences for example: “Where Will You Be The Day After Tomorrow”, and dialogues between the main characters that help audience to understand the story of the movie.
Features Of multimodal texts • Written texts on screen are: “Where Will You Be The Day After Tomorrow” “28 May” “From The director Of Independence Day” these sentences were made for audience so they understand when the movie is going to be released and who the director is (because they might had seen his previous movies and will have an idea of his work since every producer has his own style of creating films) • Spoken Language: Conversations between characters were made so the audience get a brief idea of the problems that the characters will experience in the story. • Sound Effects: Thunders and Rain: helped to recognize bad weather conditions and give an idea of what the film is going to be about.
Voiceover/Dialogue • There is no voiceover in this trailer however instead of that distributors decided to place conversations between characters which helped to understand what they will do in the movie and what their role is.
Voiceover/Dialogue • Also from those dialogues that the characters had in the trailer it is clear that the main problem in the movie is focused on global warming since there is some scenes from a government meeting where one of the main characters explained the biggest issue with the climate.
