Given This PowerPoint, Students Will………… • Learnabout all 9 positions on a baseball field • Learnposition numbering, and assigned duties • Get a simplified look atthe game of baseball for someone who may not understand it • Students will hopefully pass the quiz when they are ready to take it with an accuracy of 80%
Target Audience • I am targeting students in their first physical education class to assist them in learning about baseball
Learning Environment • The intended learning environment for this is a computer lab which students in the class can access this and interactively take the quiz while learning at their own pace

Pitcher • The pitchers designated position number in the lineup is number 1. • Pitchers are responsible for throwing the pitch to the batter. • Their fielding responsibilities are different depending on where the ball is hit and how many runners are on base. picture from picturesdepot.com
Catcher • Responsibilities are massive for a catcher • Be the leader of the team • Be Vocal • Have a strong arm • Be mentally tough
1st Base • First basemen are assigned the number 3 in the scorebook. • They are responsible for fielding balls in their area, as well as bunts. • When there is a runner on first base, the first basemen must stand right next to the bag in case the pitcher throws over to try and pick the runner off. • First basemen must be the cut-off man for right fielders and center fielders when a runner is going home, and the ball is in the outfield.
2nd Base • The assigned position number for 2nd basemen is 4. • The second basemen has different responsibilities in different situations • With a runner on, and a ball hit to the left side, they must cover second base. • Balls hit to right field, or right center they are the cutoff man *excludes when there is a play at home. • If a runner is stealing, with a right handed batter, they cover second to get the throw from the catcher, with a left handed batter, they back up the shortstop who covers second to get the throw from the catcher. • With a runner on first or runners on first and second, the objective is to turn a double play (get the out at second and then throw to 1st base)
2nd Base • How to turn a double play
Third Base • The designated position number for third basemen is number 5. • Third basemen have a big responsibility playing in what is known as “the hot corner”. • They are the first to cover bunts. • On a play at third, they line up where the throw is going.
Shortstop • The shortstop has the assigned position number of 6. • The shortstop is often considered the leader of the field, and a lot of times is the teams best player. • Shortstops jobs are to…. • Be leader of infield • Field balls in their area • Turn double plays • Be the cut-off for many outfield plays • Cover second base on a steal

Left Field • The assigned position number for left fielders is 7. • Typically the left fielder is your best fielder in the outfield, but has the weakest arm. • They are responsible for catching fly balls, and hitting the cut-off man on any relays. • It is very important that they have an accurate arm so that they can minimize the amount of people that score
Center Field • The assigned position number for center field is 8. • The center fielder is usually the best athlete in the outfield, and is the leader of the outfield. • He has to cove half way on each side of him, and his middle ground. • Responsible for catching fly balls, and fielding balls in his area. • Must be able to hit the cut-off man with an accurate throw.
Right Field • The assigned number for the right fielder is 9 • The right fielder typically has the strongest arm of all the outfielders. • He is asked to throw the farthest on balls hit to the outfield because he is the farthest away from third base. • Must be able to read and catch fly balls • Have an accurate and strong arm • Covers everywhere from the foul pole, to right/center field
