  1. Quilted or Not Quilted? Absorbency Lab

  2. Materials Materials: Paper Towel (4 quilted and 4non-quilted sheets) 2 Graduated Cylinders (250 ml) Water From Faucet

  3. Procedures • Procedures: • Fill the graduated cylinder to 250 ml full of water. • Record the starting volume of the water in your data table. • Take the non-quilted rectangle of paper towel and submerge it in the graduated cylinder. Make sure no water spills over the side of the graduated cylinder. • Remove the non-quilted paper towel from the graduated cylinder. • Record the ending volume of water in the graduated cylinder in the data table. • Subtract the starting water volume – ending volume. This is about how many mL of water the paper towel held. • Repeat 1-6 for two more trials. • Repeat steps 1-6 for the quilted rectangle of paper towel.

  4. Absorbency LabReflection Questions How would you interpret the change in water levels? Based on the evidence, explain which paper towel demonstrated to be the most absorbent? Explain why we took the time to find the mean average?

  5. Absorbency LabReflection Questions How did you verify the independent and dependent variables? Why was is important to complete THREE separate trials? Identify the control variable(s)?

  6. Absorbency LabReflection Questions How could you change the experiment without the use of the beaker? Would the results be the same?
