Notice that there are now numbers appearing between the words in the passage. These are the Strong's numbers, named for an Exhaustive Concordance developed by James Strong in 1890. Move your mouse cursor over any of these Strong's numbers, and a floating window will appear, showing the original Hebrew or Greek word, and the transliteration and pronunciation of that word. There is also a link to the root word, and a link to another dictionary that will give an expanded definition of the word. UTILIZING THE ONLINE BIBLE: Slide 14 of 18
In the case of Hebrew words, this link (TWOT) is to the Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament, by Harris, Archer and Waltke, published in 1980 by Moody Press. It utilizes its own index, but the window in the Online Bible contains the TWOT index number, to make it easier for the student to find. (NOTE: This resource is currently available online as an add-on module for some Bible software programs.) UTILIZING THE ONLINE BIBLE: Slide 15 of 18
In the case of Greek words, the window would contain a link (TDNT) to the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, by Geoffrey Bromiley, published by Eerdmans in 1985. It utilizes the Strong's index number, but the volume and page number is provided in the Online Bible window for those with access to the multi-volume version, and the page number for those using the abridged version. (NOTE: This resource is currently available online as an add-on module for some Bible software programs.) UTILIZING THE ONLINE BIBLE: Slide 16 of 18
