Green Concession Practices • Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) - Go Green Environmental Certification • Recognizes buildings with environmental best practices implemented into operations • Voluntary program • Calgary International (YYC) – 1st Canadian airport to be so recognized
BOMA Best Practices Criteria: • Resource Consumption – energy & water use • Waste Reduction & Recycling – construction & general recycling • Building Materials – hazardous materials / material selection / ozone depletion • Interior Environment – indoor air quality & HVAC maintenance • Tenant Awareness – communication programs
Green Concession Practices • Is Calgary (YYC) “greener” than other airports? • Answer – Probably not! • BOMA Go Green – Result of aware & concerned operations staff applying for certification • A great benchmarking checklist for things that many airports do already; ie: • Audits/Surveys/Written Policies/ Documented Plans/Preventative Maintenance & Tenant Communications Programs
Green Concession Practices • So why bother? • Cost savings • Valuable marketing tool • Greater environmental awareness with building design & new products • Tax / grant incentives • Stay ahead of pending legislation • The right thing to do!!
