INTRODUCTION We are going to read a story titled COUNT! In this story we are going to count animals.
MATERIALS Count ! By Denise Fleming. • PENCILS. • PAPER • CRAYONS
Before Reading • What are some of the things that we can count in our classroom? • Counting is to find the total number of objects. • I am going to read a book titled COUNT! Let’s take a picture walk. • What did you see in the book?
DURING READING • As I read COUNT!.... I will stop to practice counting. I will first model counting by pointing to the animals on each page Then as I read I will allow students to count. Who can count the fish?
After Reading • After reading I will ask children to retell the story and ask them these questions. 1 .How many crocodiles? 2.How many zebras? 3.How many giraffes? How many worms? .
Beyond reading .I will give a paper and crayon to children to draw their favorite animal from the story. I will give children a paper to trace numbers from 1 to 10. Children will watch a video on counting numbers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmqY_lhVVvs
