  1. Moore’s Message REWARD SCHOOL! The Tennessee Department of Education provides annual school accountability designations that reflect performance and growth. Reward status is the top distinction a school can earn in Tennessee. Reward schools are those that are improving overall student academic achievement and student growth for all students.Moore Elementary has earned the title of Reward school for the 2017-2018 school year. Reward schools are those with an overall score greater than 3. This score reflects the weighted average of all students (60 percent) and historically underserved student groups (40 percent) across all eligible accountability indicators. Congratulations to our students, teachers, and staff members for exemplifying student success in achievement and growth. We want to recognize their hard work and accomplishments! 2. Box Tops The Fall submission deadlineto turn in your box tops is October 26. Our goal for this year is $1800. The class that brings in the most box tops wins a pajama party! Don’t forget to include your child’s teacher’s name with your submission. Counselor Corner – Dr. Ellen Anderson Transmitting values is one of the most important parenting jobs we have. Instead of talking about your next purchase, consider sharing with your children your enthusiasm for activities that make you feel productive and engaged – your work, your book group, a volunteer job or community education class you’re considering. Talk about how to make moral choices, whether at home or out in the world. Help your child understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy competition. When a subculture is heading in the wrong direction, it is up to the adults of the larger culture to steer it back in the right direction. If the adolescent subculture pushes crime, then parents need to push safety and doing good in this world; if it pushes materialism and self-absorption, then parents need to push altruism and generosity. From the book, The Price of Privilege by Madeline Levine, Ph. D. Pajama Day! • NOTES FROM NURSE SANDERS • Happy Fall MES! With fall, come lots of activities in the area of Student Health! Soon your child will bring home a form for our student flu vaccine offered by the Williamson County Health Department. The vaccines will be administered on October 23rd. • With the upcoming cooler weather, we find ourselves outside more and with that come an increase in tick exposure. Always check your child for ticks after any outdoor play. Ticks prefer the less obvious places like the ears, backs of knees, armpits, and head. • If your child has a condition that requires emergency medications at school such as asthma or food allergies, please provide these medications to me along with the completed paperwork. • Remember our District’s “24 hour policy” before returning sick students to school: • fever free without the use of • medication • without vomiting or diarrhea • on antibiotics for infections • Sherry Sanders, RN • MES School Nurse Fall Class Parties  Friday, October 12 The Fall party is on an early dismissal day. Check your child’s grade level newsletter for party times. Your class room parent will contact you if items are needed. Everyone is welcome to join us! Fall Party!

  3. Where Do Your Donations Go? Have you wondered why our school needs to have fundraisers? Our district provides many necessities for our school such as personnel, facilities, furniture, books, and curriculum. This does not include many of the items we use for instruction that engage learners . The majority of the PTO funds are spent on technology such as ipads, Promethean boards, Apple TVs and projectors, and hopefully soon, chrome books. We all know that technology is consistently needing to be updated. Currently, we have an interactive Promethean board in every classroom. Those were purchased over a 3 year period with fundraising profits. Our first one was purchased over eight years ago and they are needing to be replaced. In addition to technology, our wonderful playground was purchased with PTO fundraising profits. We are hoping to add a nature component to it. Also, when we bring in educational and fun programs; such as Safari Greg and Mad Scientist those are paid for with fundraising funds. And so much more!!! We are at the halfway mark of our Fill the Nest campaign, our ONE fundraiser for the year. Please consider donating to MES! Thank you for your support! Enchanted Forest Book Fair Coming Soon!
