Mandate of BEDIA • Established by an Act of Parliament 1997 with the following key responsibilities • Promote investment to encourage economic diversification, rapid economic growth and sustained employment opportunities • Investment promotion • Export development • Construction of factory shells • Advocacy to enhance the investment climate • Gather intelligence and conduct research • Promote joint ventures Recent developments – Merger with the Botswana International Financial services centre (IFSC), Management of the nation brand, interim Authority for SEZ

The Structure of Business Development • To position Botswana as the right investment location • Undertakes targeted Investor courting missions (outbound and inbound) • Publish information relating to investment in Botswana (brochures) • Identify partners (in or outside Botswana for joint business ventures) • Provide advisory and courtesy services to prospective investors • Encourage expansions and new investments • Make necessary recommendations to Government • Monitors international investment trends

Services offered by Business Facilitation • The following services are free of charge – except those paid directly to approving authorities • Company registration • Timely receipt of all Government authorizations including: • VISAs, work and residence permits • Industrial license • Land acquisition and leasing of factory spaces • Utilities e.g power, water and telephone connections • Coordination of incentive packages with respective ministries
