Beefmaster • Only recognized breed for beef-making Characteristics. • Shorthorn, Hereford, and Braham cross breed. • Red most common color, but are found in any color. • Developed by Tom Lasater. • One-half Braham, and One-forth Hereford and Shorthorn. • Breed for Weight, conformation, Milking ability, fertility, hardiness, and disposition.

  4. Calves • Small at birth. • Weigh sixty bound when born. • Grow as good as any other calves. • Good weaning. • Good weights.

  5. Fertility • Most important trait for selection. • A heifer must breed as soon as possible. • Suckle a calf every year. • If not, must be culled immediately. • Bulls have to me able to mate with other cows.

  6. Disposition • Good natured cattle breed earlier. • Easier to handle. • Cheaper. • Great growth rate. • Higher income.

  7. Weights • Heavier mass. • Greater growth rate. • Greater profit.

  8. Conformation • Bulls must be well muscled. • Cows feminine. • Cows must produce small calves at birth.

  9. Hardiness • They have the ability to stay healthy. • Be productive under various farming conditions. • Be productive under various climatic conditions.

  10. Milk Production • Must have enough milk to: produce a weaner with a good body mass. Despite the nutritional conditions in which they are kept.
