Greetings from Switzerland! Greatings from Switzerland
Selfhelpgroups in Switzerland • 2000 SH-groups • 200 SH-organisations • 450 topics • Trend: raising demand for groups by persons in particular serious situations
Selfhelp-Centres in Switzerland National centre 1 Regional centres: 19 • German speaking: 15 • German – French speaking 2 • French- speaking 1 • Italian- speaking 1
Regional Centres • Staff: 45 colleagues in par time employment, correspond to: 18 fulltime jobs • Annual costs approximately: 4,5 Mio Euro • given by: Swiss federal office, cantons, communities, welfare-organisations
Regional Centres Developing tendencies: • Raising from 10 to 18 fulltime-employments since 2006 • upcoming projects in French part of Switzerland
Public acceptance • Selfhelp-groups are more and more taken for granted by professionals, authorities and the public • Raising support for regional centres by cantonal authorities (contracts). • Lack of support on national level in the area of public health (chronically sufferers).
Highlights • Our training-program for selfhelp-groups was a big success last year and has been repeated 3 times • In a highly understaffed canton we got the job of planning and setting up 4 regional clearinghouses • The regional centres made a concerted effort to create common quality standards for clearinghouses • A upcoming highlight: 10th birthday of our national centre KOSCH in 2010.
Problems challenges • Serious lack of financing in our national centre…highly understaffed situation
Challenges Actual: • To find access in the legislation of health-prevention (could be a solution for the national centre) Long-term: • The cultural transmission of SH-promotion in the french and italian part of our country
1.Proposal for European Networking • We propose to strengthen the European network, for instance by a responsible working-group.
2. Proposal for European Networking • We propose a European exchange program for clearinghouse professionals, for instance for a stay of 1 or 2 weeks • This could be a possibility of enrichment and international exchange put into practise with an acceptable effort
