Edinboro’s stars in PSAC womens basketball awards • Edinboro’s great women’s basketball season translated into major recognition Wednesday in the all-PSAC west postseason awards. • Coach Stan Swank was named West coach of the year. • Erie-area players claimed eight of the 13 spots on the first and second teams.

  2. Mercyhurst student killer • The ex-boyfriend of Jenni-Lyn Watson was sentenced Tuesday morning in New York for killing the Mercyhurst College student • Steven M. Pieper, 21, received 23 years to life in state prison for killing Watson • Pieper pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Feb. 15.

High gas prices • High gasoline prices are taking a bite from Joey Scolio’s profits • Gasoline prices are costing Scolio oney coming and going. • The price for the regular unleaded gasoline that Scolio pumps into his minivan was $3.599 per gallon Wednesday, up 40 cents in the past month and 72 cents a gallon higher than a year ago.

  5. Girls basketball team • McDowell’s Kaitlyn Fromknecht tries to put up a shot while being guarded by East’s Hughes in the first quarter. • Strong Vincent won the title in 2010. • Its was absense that didn’t nake McDowell’s heart grow fonder, but did make their baskeball souls hungrier.

Storm soaks south • A resident walks through the street flooding in the Mid City section of New Orleans. • Heavy thunderstorms came through the area Wednesday. • Two apparent tornadoes damaged buildings and caused minor injuries near Mobile, Ala., hours after several tournadoes were reported to the west in Louisiana.
