On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in WW1.
President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Armistice Day on November 11, 1919.
Armistice Day became Veterans Day, in 1938.
Official ceremonies for Veterans Day center around the Tomb of the Unknowns.
2.6 million veterans served during World War II (1941-1945). 2.8 million veterans served during the Korean War (1950-1953).
7.8 million veterans served during the Vietnam War era (1964-1975) 5.2 million veterans served during the Gulf War(1990 –1991).
