  2. Paleo Indians • At the end of the Ice Age • Climate was colder and wetter • Nomads • Probably crossed over from Asia • No evidence of settlements

Archaic Indians • Around 8,000 B.C. • Climate was warmer • Forests started to sprout up • Improved on hunting, fishing, and gathering in new climate • Built rock shelters and pithouses out of clay and logs and were partially underground. • Began to stay in one place and develop villages and trade.

  4. Woodland Indians • About 1,000 B.C. • They began to clear fields and farm. • They developed the bow and arrow. • Built villages along streams where the soil was soft and moist. • Developed their own form of pottery. • Developed burial and ceremonial mounds.
