12 WRITING All nouns have CAPITAL letters Practise writing down what you have learned for your speaking exam. Write short paragraphs on each of the topics Always cover the 3 time frames and give opinions
11 OPINIONS Start with simple sentences and build up to more complex ones: eg Das ist gut. Das finde ich gut. Ich denke, das ist gut. Meiner Meinung nach ist das gut. Avoid repetition – use a variety of adjectives Learn a few which can be used in lots of topics
10 WORD ORDER The verb is always second in the sentence eg Ich spiele Fussball. but Freitags spiele ich Fussball. This is because you have put another word/phrase in front of the verb Connectives like weilsend the verb to theend of the sentence. Do not forget the COMMA (weil means because and allows you to express opinions/reasons)
9 LIKES AND DISLIKES Ich mag + noun Ich mag Fussball. Ich + verb + gern Ich spiele gern Fussball. Remember: the word gern must come after the verb. Also, add nicht to make it negative. 2 sentences for the price of 1.
8 MODAL VERBS Ich möchte = I would like Ich kann = I can Ich will = I want Ich muss = I have to/must Ich darf = I am allowed to These verbs must have a second verb eg Ich möchteins Kino gehen. = I would like to go to the cinema They all work in the same way. Learn the pattern for one and transfer it to the others.
7 TIME FRAMES PRESENT: - ich gehe = I go/am going ich fahre = I go (transport) ich habe = I have ich bin = I am er spielt = he plays sie hat = she has Remember the verb endings: ich (I) verb ends in - e er (he) verb ends in - t wir (we) verb ends in - en
6 TIME FRAMES FUTURE: - Morgen gehe ich. Am Samstag fahre ich. use a simple time word / phrase Ich werde Tennis spielen. use the verb werden
5 TIME FRAMES PERFECT: - Ich bin gegangen. (movement) Ich bin gefahren. Ich habe gesehen. (no movement) Learn the most common past participles. The past participle must be at the end of the sentence.
4 PAST PARTICIPLES Ich habe…. gespielt gesehen gehört Ich bin…. gegangen gefahren geblieben
3 LITTLE WORDS und (and) aber (but) oder (or) eg Ich habe gespielt und ich habe gelesen. NO change to word order
2 MORE LITTLE WORDS to: nach + town or country nach Berlin zum/zur + building zum Dom / zur Schule vor + time zehn vor sechs
1 EVEN MORE LITTLE WORDS at: um + time um vier Uhr zu + festival time zu Ostern/ zu Weihnachten am/an der + building am Bahnhof
