  2. Who is NAV CANADA • NAV CANADA is a private company who owns and operates the Canadian Air Navigation System • NAV CANADA's primary objective is to facilitate the movement of aircraft safely, efficiently and cost effectively, through the provision of air navigation services.

  3. What is the problem? • To ensure safe and efficient polar flights, we need: • Good communication links with aircraft • HF Radio Blackout are frequent and somewhat unpredictable • User needs more accurate forecast for flight planning purposes

  4. Space Weather Forecast Requirements • NAV CANADA/Canadian Space Weather Centre will use same level of intensity then suggested by CSWC for radio propagation • Color code associated easy to interpret for the airlines use • Use the same ACC Area than NAV CANADA’s Edmonton Centre

  5. Nowcast and Forecast • Nowcast chart will use current data to display actual conditions • Forecast will be derived from the space weather model • Forecast • update will be every 12 hours (at least) • coverage for following 24 hours

  6. Future expansion • Canadian forecast will be posted on the NAV CANADA Internet site • Expansion to • Alaska Anchorage Area Control Centre • Iceland (Keyflavik ACC) • Russian Airspace
