What was the Perot Party? The party of Ross Perot, when he ran for President in 1992 (against Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush), & 1996 (against Bill Clinton and Bob Dole). Won a large percentage of the vote, came in third, split the Republican vote, one of the largest third parties in history.

Because the two major parties absorb their major issues, or when their issues are dealt with there’s no need for the party, also, people get tired of backing a loser, especially a loser that has no chance of getting anyone elected.

Bill Clinton didn’t accomplish anything of note when first elected with a majority in both houses, but once the Republicans won back both House & Senate, they passed welfare reform, deregulation and a number of other significant laws.
What do political parties accomplish? They provide a vetting (investigate to discover) process for candidates that filters out the weak candidates, get their parties elected, try to get their policies enacted.
Who has power in American politics? Authority is one thing, but Power gets things done. Political leaders who can get people elected, those closest to the seat of power, those who have influence over a lot of people (AARP) can get things done.
How did the Democratic party get started? A long time ago, the anti-federalists opposed the Constitution and a strong national government. Jefferson forms it into the Democratic-Republican party, Andrew Jackson rebuilds it, it becomes the Democratic party, but today favors a strong national government.
