Objective examination • Has two main components namely: • observations • Physical examination and tests • Infection control measures are always critical when working with children. • Need to structure physical observation and examination based on what you asked and what you see • Find a way that works for you –structure helps • Explain caregiver/child what examining and why.
Feedback • If you feel competent and comfortable enough you may provide feedback during your assessment itself • Remember to provide caregiver/child feedback following your examination as to what you found • Give an indication of your plan regarding PT intervention, when will it start, frequency etc. • Give advice where indicated .
No need to run scared when having to assess a child. Use family centred care principles Structure & practice will make perfect....in time
