The COMSTAC Launch Operations and Support Working Group (LOSWG) for DARPA's FALCON program aims to integrate the latest technologies and innovative CONOPS to create a transformational, operationally responsive, and affordable spacelift and global strike capability. The program goals include developing a new common aero vehicle (CAV and ECAV), a new small satellite launch vehicle (SSLV), and an enhanced CAV launch vehicle (ECLV). The SSLV capability objectives are to launch a 1000 lb payload to orbit, achieve orbital insertion accuracies and payload volume, and have an alert status and launch readiness within 24 hours. The ECLV capability objectives include global range from CONUS, launching a 2000 lb ECAV, and achieving alert status and launch readiness within 24 hours, with one hour from launch to target and surge capability of 16 launches in 24 hours. Contractors are encouraged to propose innovative CONOPS and demonstrate technologies early. The FALCON program also has implications for commercial space, as FALCON SSLVs may launch from FAA licensed launch sites and FALCON technologies/systems will affect launch site and range operations and other launch vehicles/ops.
