What is STEMasters? • 4-H Essential Elements, Experiential Learning, and Life Skills embedded in training Dale Leidheiser a.k.a. Mr. Funny Man!
What is STEMasters? • Focus on science, technology, and engineering 4-H curricula in different modules (i.e. GPS/GIS, Robotics, Environment, Energy, Agronomy, Aerospace, etc. A2 + B + C2 = STEM Team

What is STEMasters? • Summit County selected Energy, Environment, Robotics, and Science 101 • Participants choose one of the 4 modules for an intensive 8 hour training on that topic
What is STEMasters? • For teachers, the option to choose • 1.2 hours CEU for $50 • 1 graduate credit from CSU School of Education for $55! (requires 15 hours F2F plus project) 2 Face to Face

The Modules and selected curricula Cornell Ornithology Lab BirdSleuth kids ask scientific questions, craft and test hypotheses, collect and organize data, draw meaningful conclusions, and publish their work Project Butterfly Wing – distribution, abundancy, and frequency of butterflies in the United States

Environment: There’s No New Water, Forestry, Exploring Your Environment, and Cornell Ornithology Citizen Scientist Project (Anne Casey)
Robotics: Junk Drawer Robotics, Virtual Robotics, and Platform Robotics (Claire Dixon)
Science 101 Introduction to Science, Science Discovery 1 and 2, and Project Butterfly Wing (Barb Shaw)
What Summit County 4-H has provided: • Current STEM programs for the county: (robotics club, 4-H Fifth Grade Weather Team pilot project, vet science, outdoor skills camp, shooting sports STEM Connections) • Organization for all partners by listening, extracting common goals, and moving the group forward towards those common goals • The STEMaster brochure (WOW!) • Advertising STEMaster training by meeting with the principals at each school
What Summit County 4-H has/will provide: • Information meetings for the community, to answer questions about STEMaster and becoming a 4-H volunteer • 4-H system of volunteer registration, background check and initial training in positive youth development for all STEMaster volunteers in the county • Management of the STEMaster volunteer cadre at each of the elementary schools
What the Youth Development and STEM specialists has/will provide: • Develop STEMasters training • 4 hours positive youth development, experiential learning, essential elements, and life skills – Dale Leidheiser • 8 hour module training • Energy – Christy Fitzpatrick • Environment – Anne Casey • Robotics – Claire Dixon • Science 101 – Barb Shaw • Continued support after training
What the CSU STEM Center and STEM specialists has/will provide: • Develop STEMasters training for teachers • Additional 3 hour workshop on “Probing Questions” (Heidi Iverson) • Aligning to the standards (Karl Topper – Summit School District) • Project and Paperwork for CEU or grad credit (Barb Shaw) • Exit Surveys (Christy Fitzpatrick and Heidi Iverson)
Bring STEMasters to your county! • After-school providers • Write into 21st Century grants (currently being written) – see Anne Casey for more information • STEM Companies in your county • Recruit STEM employees to work with 4-H youth – see Claire Dixon for more information
