4.7 Goal: Fractions and Decimals • Terminating and Repeating Decimals When a long division problem results in a remainder of 0, the quotient is a terminating decimal. Sometimes, long division gives a repeating decimal, where one or more digits repeat without end. Repeating decimals can be written with a bar over the digit (s) that repeat. .444444…… = 0.4 One digit repeats. 3.0505…= 3.05 Two digits repeat.
Example 1: Writing Fractions as a decimal • Write 7/20 and 3 5/8 as decimals
