  2. Identify the organ Describe the gross findings Diagnosis?

  3. Acute Appendicitis The appendix is markedly swollen. The serosa is hyperemic and covered by a fibrinous exudate. Compare the inflammed appendix to the adjacent segments of a normal appendix.

  4. Edematous serosa Focal ulceration, necrosis of mucosa

  5. Intraluminal neutrophils Mucosal ulceration Transmural inflammation

  6. Mucosa with scattered neutrophils Neutrophils admixed with lymphocytes of the lamina propria
