  2. What are the causes and symptoms of Cervical Cancer? • The causes of cervical cancer are not exact. Doctors have not yet found the real causes of it, however the woman’s medical history and sexual habits can be a big cause in developing cervical cancer. Also, an HPV infection may be another big cause of cervical cancer. There are also risk factors. They include: • HPV infection • Lack of Pap tests • Weakened immune system • Age (greater that 40) • Smoking • Being on birth control for a long time

  3. Continued… • The symptoms of this cancer include: • Abnormal vaginal bleeding • Menstrual periods last longer and are heavier • Pelvic pain

  4. Relation to cell process • The symptoms and the cause of cervical cancer relate to the cell process of mitosis. This is because in mitosis, the cells must divide and repair the old cells. When the cell division goes wrong in mitosis, it’s because the cells in the cervix grow rapidly and get out of control.

  5. Mitosis Mess Up • Mitosis is when body cells divide and repair old cells with new ones. To cause cancer, mitosis is used more often than needed. This is how the cells are produced rapidly.

  6. The Problem • The problem with cervical cancer is that it can become too late for it to be cured. Cervical Cancer is 100% preventable if it’s spotted before getting too out of hand. However, it’s up to the women to get pap tests regularly. If the woman does not do this regularly then the tumor can spread and become malignant. Malignant tumors are cancerous and they destroy tissues and spread to other parts of the body.

  7. Conclusion • In conclusion, Cervical cancer can be caused by a HPV infection, the woman’s medical history, and her sexual habits. The cell process that goes wrong to form a tumor is mitosis. The tumor can be benign, meaning non-cancerous, or malignant, meaning cancerous. This disease is 100% preventable if caught soon enough before the tumor spreads.
