  2. Tips to Help Your Parents to Cope with Loneliness Human being is a social animal! Communication with other humans is key for survival. Isolation and loneliness are the big concerns in the matured adults. There are various reasons for their reduced social interactions and activities. Their reduced physical abili- ties, visual, hearing and cognitive impairments that are triggered by age-related degen- eration hampers their ability to communicate, interact and engage with other social beings. Due to their limitations, most adults prefer to remain in their houses without minding the dire consequences that their isolation may reveal in future. The lack of excitement in life, absence of sources for being occupied and to have fun make life boring and monotonous for the elderly. Here are 7 exciting tips that make aging life 'fun-flling!'. 1. Communication is the Key - Irrespective of your distance to your aging parents, always be in touch with them. It not only makes them immensely happy but gives a secured feel that their bloodline is there for them. Talking to your parents at least once in a day makes them feel happy and listening to your voice will defnitely makes their day. 2. Take them out regularly - Consider taking them to community parks and social gatherings as long as their health permits. Seniors love to engage with people around them to know about them. There are many social clubs where elders could make new friends and meet people who share same interests. Keeping them engaged in life is important! www.athulyaliving.com

  3. 3. Observe their non-verbal communication - Elders become children as they age! Just like children, seniors do not express everything in words. Talking to them about their concerns is one thing and observing their non-verbal communication is another. It reveals more about them including the things they hesitate to reveal. It is the best way to understand whether they are happy in their life or not. 4. Ensure they are surrounded by people always - This is the generation of micro families and seniors are often left on their own due to unavoidable reasons. If your parents are living alone, try to visit them as frequently as possible. Otherwise, consider other options such as assisted living homes as there will be number of likeminded people where your parents could make new friends. 5. Encourage them to be occupied themselves - As per the popular saying 'an idle brain is a devil's workshop', idleness leads various physical and mental health issues. Make sure your parents are occupied with a hobby. Simple hobbies such as reading books can induce positivity in life. Introduce electronic gadgets to your parents as they could spend their free time using them. Elderly needs are unique and the younger generation should understand and fulfll them. It is the level of the young generation's responsiveness that determine the life quality of an elderly parent! www.athulyaliving.com
