  1. NorLex Cretaceous template Mike Charnock & Steve Crittenden

  2. Steve Crittenden sends his apologies: well-site takes priority!

  3. Talk Overview Timetable for ACTION • NorLex Original Project Objectives • Cretaceous TSC NorLex Biostratigraphic Zonation (proposal) • TSC Norlex Regional Norwegian Lithostratigraphic Scheme (proposed) • Figures templates (proposal) • Logos • Log Scales • Digital type sections • Deliverables • Mid Norway lithostratigraphic units (established) • Timetable for deliverables END OCTOBER 2007 (as per original project aims agreement)

  4. 1. NorLex Original Project Proposals

  5. 2. Cretaceous TSC NorLex Biostratigraphic Zonation (proposal) • Digital TSC based zonation. • Regionally applicable. • One zone per stage i.e. Maastrichtian = MK1, Campanian = MK2 etc with subdivisions 1.1, 1.2 etc. • Late Cretaceous: planktonic foraminifera & dinoflagellate cyst based.

  6. 2. Cretaceous TSC NorLex Biostratigraphic Zonation (proposal) • Strong zonal control on Cretaceous/Jurassic boundary (`base `Cretaceous unconformity`) • Use of Berriasian/Tithonian Emphasis on marine planktonic markers unless prefixed otherwise [B]: Benthic Foraminifera, [R] Radiolaria [S] Spores/Pollen etc

  7. 3. Cretaceous TSC NorLex Lithostratigraphic Zonation (proposal)

  8. 3. Cretaceous TSC NorLex Lithostratigraphic Zonation (proposal)

  9. 4. Figures templates (proposal) • TEXT : Lithostratigraphic template established • FIGURES template?: (proposal standardised ) • JPEG only illustrations?. • Acceptable in either .pdf or .wmf ?

  10. 4. Figures template: Logos (proposal)

  11. 4. Figures template: Log scales (proposal) • Dalland et al 1988 • Variable GR 0- 100, • 50 –150, 30-250 API • Variable DT 160-60, 150- 50, 140.40 micro sec/ft • Vollset & Dore: • GR 0-100 API ; DT 140-40 PROPOSAL: GR 0-150 API DT 140-40 m secs/ft DENSITY: 1.95 – 2.95 g/cm3 NEUTRON POROSITY: 0.54 –0.06 %

  12. 4. Figures template: Digital sections (proposal) • StrataBugs digital figures • Additional interpreted age (following Gradstein et al., 2004) & selective biostratigraphic events (various sources) • Clear indications of changes in status

  13. 5. Deliverables • Cretaceous biostratigraphic zonation • Figures for all existing Cretaceous type & reference wells with biostratigraphy • Figures for all proposed new Cretaceous type & reference wells with biostratigraphy • Egga figures type & ref. wells.

  14. 5. Deliverables • Well distribution list of formations/members (mMD RKB) • tops/bases/thickness (for mapping : ØH)

  15. Mid Norway lithostratigraphic units (established) HOW IS MID NORWAY DEFINED? We propose following Dalland et al (1988) and exclude Møre Margin.
