The SSV UAI The SSV UAI (Union of Italian Amateur Astronomers Variable Stars Section ) is the historical section of the italian variable stars observers headed by Angelo Frosina
Il G.R.A.V. The Astronomical Research Group was founded in 2004 by two amateur astronomers, Flavio Zattera and Ivo Peretto, as an alternative to SSV UAI, with the intention of promoting culture and the study of variable stars.
The collaboration • Since the beginning the atmosphere between the two groups was friendly, and it developed into the National Meeting, who took place in the following townes: • Prato 2004 • Montarrenti (Siena) 2005 • Ravenna 2006 • Padova 2007 • Marana di Crespadoro (VI) 2009
The structure of the SSV UAI GRAV The first fundamental step of this collaboration was the construction of the website within the portal, based on the protocol Wiki that allows the complete autonomy of the individual subsections. Chief of this new section is Ivo Peretto

THE SUBSECTIONS After 5 years of collaboration between SSV UAI and GRAV could some experience on the target to be proposed. STRUCTURE OF THE SUBSECTION Each chairman is free to decide how to organize its own section, but in any case there will be always a footprint common with the other sections. Here below there is an example of the Section RR_ Lyrae variable stars:

VISUAL SECTION Although it may seem anachronistic to estimate the variable stars in view, we think that this section can help a neophyte to take the first steps toward the comprehension of the variable stars. Particular attention was given to estimation methods such as fractional method, the method of Pogson or of Argelander, which are all explained in the site. There are also stars, who because of their brightness, can be estimated only with the visual method or with a photometer; for example the case of Epsilon Aurigae.
SHORT PERIOD VARIABLE STARS This subsection is introduced by Riccardo Papini after this section
EB SECTION This subsection is introduced by Marco Vincenzi after this section
“SKY LIVE” PROJECT This section is a novelty. We had the chance to create a working group that uses the remote fully robotic telescopes placed in Pedara (CT) on the slopes of Etna, in order to observe with the aid of the CCD variable stars. The Skylive is a new and innovative project of the UAI that allows the acces to every recorded person and use remote telescopes, CCD camera and filters (the Tele4 has BVRI filters). This project is not dedicated only to variable stars so we decided to observe variable stars which can be estimated just once a week; then the choice has fallen on Cepheid variable stars. Periodically, the chief Ivo Peretto, establishes the targets. www.skylive.it

“SKY LIVE” PROJECT The future of SKYLIVE An interesting program that we would like to develop for 2010 includes 1) New Suspect Variable (NSV) 2) Novae (AAVSO program)
Plans for the near future There are many ideas that we would like to develop short-term 1) completion of the Internet site, in every section 2) developing a “enter level program” for beginners 3) unification of methods of observation and estimation of variable stars using CCD 4) creating an online database 5) development of multi-band photometry with the telescope remotely Skylive of UAI 6) creating a section dedicated to the deepening of issues related to the study of variable stars with particular attention to astronomical data analysis software 7) increased collaboration with professional astronomers and with associations of variability in the world as the AAVSO 8) formulation of a course for beginners variability propose national amateur groups 9) greater involvement of associations of amateur astronomers to study variable stars through participation in national meetings and promotion campaigns
