  1. Development of the IF2 Chain for the FPU of the HIFI Instrument Alexander Megej April 15th, 2003, Groningen

  2. Introduction I • Second Stage of the IF-Amplification Chain

  3. Introduction II Two different amplifier types: • Bands 15 (4  8 GHz) • Bands 6H&L(4  8 GHz)

  4. Activities Planned • LNA Design • 2 stage LNA for the altered frequency range of the Band 6 √ • 3 stage LNA for the Bands 1-5 (4  8 GHz) √ • Re-design of signal combiners • Soft substrate: RT6002 of Rogers (SRON). √ • Alternative: TMM10i with the existing ETH design √ • Development and testing of amplifiers to be completed by the end of 2002 √ • SRON performs mechanical design of the IF-2 box in co-operation with Mecom, NL √ • ITT-Package definition √ • Design and technology transfer to an industrial partner starting in 2003 

  5. LNA for Bands 15 Three-stage design using TRW InP HEMTs

  6. LNA for Bands 15

  7. LNA for Bands 15

  8. LNA for Bands 15 Summary of Measured Results The employment of the isolators at the IF-2 input can be avoided

  9. LNA for Bands 6 H&L Two-stage design using TRW InP HEMTs

  10. LNA for Bands 6H&L

  11. LNA for Bands 6 H&L Summary of Measured Results Three-stage design required

  12. LNA for Bands 6 H&L Three-stage design required

  13. Current Status I ETH3DHI02 ETH3DLI01

  14. Current Status II

  15. Further Activities • Manufacturing of the Final Amplifier DMs • Issue of ITT • Assembling of the IF-2 DM • Transfer of the Design and Technology to an Industrial Partner
