Activities at Ocean Climate Laboratory (OCL) at NODC pertinent to the Aquarius mission Tim Boyer Nov 28, 2011
Present Global Ocean Heat Content Page: 0-700 m integrated ocean heat content, mean thermosteric sea level anomaly, temperature anomalies at 16 standard levels, temperature data distributions.
New page (end of 2011): 1. addition of salinity data distribution, 2. salinity anomalies, 3. halosteric sea level 4. anomaly, total steric sea level anomaly. 5.0-2000 m as well as 0-700 m integrals.
Salinity data distribution: July – September, 2011 At the surface (0-5m)
At 10 m depth Salinity data distribution: July – September, 2011 At the surface (0-5m)
July-Sep, 2011 in situ salinity data: Contributions from Argo vs. other sources grey=Argo, blue=CTD+bottle+buoyarrays+gliders, red=pinniped
Salinity anomaly: July – September, 2011 At the surface (0-5m)
At 10 m depth Salinity anomaly: July – September, 2011 At the surface (0-5m)
Present/proposed Future work at OCL/NODC using, and in support of, the Aquarius mission • Providing timely in situ salinity profile data to Aquarius community • Augmenting in situ salinity profile data with indirect (non-near-real time) sources • Comparing/incorporating Aquarius data into salinity anomalies/climatologies (with satellite group/NODC (D. Byrne)) • Explore the difference between surface (0-5m) and deeper (5 and 10 meter) salinity fields • Explore correlation of halosteric (and total) sea level anomaly and sea surface salinity evolution.
