A modern polygon for waste recycling • Year 1997 – a foundtation of Getlini Eko • Involvement of Wold Bank’s credit, GEF (Global Environmental Facility) and Swedish International Development agency • Non-recyclable waste is deposited in environmentally safe biodegradable cells, which cannot be penetrated by either air or rainwater

Students’ ideas/stereotypes before: • There will be only big pile of trash... • Nothing interesting or useful to learn... • Awful smell... Stinky rubbish mountain... • New topic to me! Lots of homeless people and rats... • Very far in unknown direction out of Riga... • Some kind of dump...
Students’ ideas/stereotypes before: • We will be taught how to sort trash • We will be guided through the trash mountain... • Unbearable smell all around...
Students’ impressions after: • A big, well organized polygon • They produce warmth
Students’ impressions after: • I wasn’t expecting that well organized system where everything is planned and none of those made products weren’t forgotten! • I liked their solution for grass mowing by sheep
Students’ impressions after: • Very tasty tomatoes from greenhouse! • I did like the atmosphere in the conference room and we were serious • Now I will start thinking more serious about our tidiness...
Students' result - game • Find 15 differences in the picture
