  4. What is non-fiction? What is the purpose of non-fiction writing? • Non-fiction is not fake • informs the reader about REAL events, people, places, and times • OR tries to persuade the reader to see the author’s feelings or point of view • Sometimes called INFORMATIONAL TEXT

Types of Non-Fiction • Narrative (tells a true story) • diaries • biographies • INFORMATIONAL (expository) • articles (newspapers, magazines…) • reference books (encyclopedias, almanac…) • textbooks • Persuasive (promotes an opinion or feeling) • advertisements • editorial • Everyday text • menus • coupons • directions • flyers
